Roberta Newman of Cape Charles will offer piano lessons for ages 6 through adult beginning in September. Trail length is 4 miles. The walking surface varies from soft to hard-packed sand with one short stretch of concrete roadway. Advanced registration is required. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Northampton Memorial Library hosts The Virginiad :400 Years of Virginia History in Poetry  by Tim Lewis, a Reading and Book Signing. Tim Lewis was born in England but he has been a resident of Virginia for many years and is the author of 8 books, including history, poetry and fiction. He has   performed his poetry to audiences across America and Europe and his works of history have won international acclaim. In his book, the Virginiad , Lewis explores Virginia from 1607 to the present day in poetry as seen through the eyes of ordinary folk. The poetry mixes songs, cultural customs, religious awakenings, social beliefs, and political movements to present a unique history of Virginia.

1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. - 4th Annual How Did Santa Claus Get Down a Twisted Chimney? Children’s Christmas Program with Abrakadoodle (ages 5-12). What a fun way to ring in the holidays!  Kids, join us for festive Christmas art projects and enjoy stories and songs from Christmas’s past. The children will see an actual twisted chimney that is located in the historic almshouse attic. 7:30 p.m. – Arts Enter presents “Christmas with Elvis – Memories of Memphis” at the Historic Palace Theatre in Cape Charles. Jim Smith, the ultimate Elvis Tribute winner from Virginia Beach will perform with his 5 piece band. Mini-film montage of Elvis before Elvis appears. Drawing for a Red Drum Wood Carving by renowned carver John Harlow – tickets are $1 each, 6 tickets for $5, or 13 tickets for $10. The proceeds support American Legion Post 56 charitable activities. Come and celebrate the Christmas Season a selection of your favorite brass standards performed by the Virginia Symphony brass and percussion – spotlight the harp! 5:30 p.m. - BIC Speaker Series: Virginia State Folklorist Jon Lohman: “Traditional Music Styles of Virginia.” There are a dizzying number of styles of traditional music in Virginia, ranging from the sea shanties of the Chesapeake watermen to the old time and bluegrass stylings of the Blue Ridge.  State Folklorist Jon Lohman will lead the audience on an audio-visual tour of some of the diverse ways in which communities of the Commonwealth are expressing themselves through music. Children’s Abrakadoodle Art Class: A Winter Wonderland: a 6 week session on Wednesdays. Mini Doodlers (3 to 5 yrs) from 3:15 p.m. to 4:05 p.m. for a cost of $70 per child. Doodlers (5 to 11 yrs. old) from 4:05 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a cost of $75 per child.  In this session, we’ll explore some highlights of the season with projects focusing on wintry delights.  We’ll use a wide range of art media as we build snowmen in the meadow, play in icicle-covered forests, meet an atmospheric scientist/photographer and much more during this very cool art session.  Come on in, pull off your mittens and boots, grab a cup of hot cocoa, and join us in creating art that will bring some warmth to this season.

8 p.m. – Arts Enter Cape Charles will present Sgt. Pepper: A Tribute to the Beatles. You won’t believe your eyes… or your ears! The band captures all the thrills Beatles fans have missed for 40 years with identical costumes and equipment. The look and sound is uncanny. Fun for all ages as you sing along to your favorite Beatle song, the music will shine on forever! Songs include “Strawberry Fields Forever”, “Penny Lane” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to “I’m Down” played with Vox amps and Rickenbacker guitars made famous by the Beatles. Calling all kids who love to be on the water in a boat!  This introductory boat safety class is for every child from 7 to 14 who loves to go boating and for every mom and dad who want their kids to know boat and water safety at an early age.  In this hands-on 3 hour class, students will learn introductory boating safety skills to help lay the groundwork for years of boating fun!
